growing up outside of town and spending my teenage years getting to many of my friend’s houses in much more rural places, I do understand how trunk or treat could come about and make sense. hell, we used to get driven around from house to house in the country sometimes.

what I don’t understand is when it’s done in suburbia

Now I imagine in the country you can at least blow up pumpkins at midnight to make up for having to trunk or treat.

for us at that age, it was an awful lot of hide-and-seek in the woods. makes for a long scary game when you’ve got 10-20 kids spread out over a dozen acres.

Its so bizarre seeing the origin of such practices. Like i see how offroad vehicles, car based pasttimes, etc would make sense in the geeat wilderness but then the average person who has a pickup is joe, 45, who lives in suburbia and works as middle management for an office supplies company.
