Imo the Germans really deserve props with how they treat their black page, compared to how other countries around them still try to hide what they did during colonial times (which to some extent, continues to present day)

I guess this is so in many more places, we look at the world and wonder who has power. Most Europeans will see two big players: China and the US.

China (unlike Russia) was never a true enemy, but neither ever a true ally. It has been going back and forth between a dependable business partner and a hostile state, stealing technological secrets, overflowing our market with unsafe low-cost goods.

The US behaved like a dependable friend for a long time. They did things we (‘the rest of the west’) didn’t like, but they also helped us out all the time. Obvious to anyone here, this is no longer the case. We cannot predict whether their next policy will help or hurt us, the only thing we can say for sure it will be whatever works best for them. That’s not the behaviour of an ally.

I sincerely wonder what the future holds. China doesn’t have to be an enemy of the west and vice versa. But i guess we (or actually, each world leader) all have to choose how we position ourselves on the global stage.

In general i find it a really good thing that a single country can hand out a visa for the entire schengen-area, but that it is still not possible to restrict that possibility is beyond me. Russia is a hostile state, obviously not all Russians should be punished for that but some precaution against bad actors is totally logical. It’s not like this war started last week.

I believe you could get around that by giving out a free card to locals/all Germans/all Europeans that gives free access.

I agree, but this will require political will. I think on lemmy people would vote for a government that creates stuff like this, but there are a lot of people want their government to spend as little as possible, unfortunately. I find it more likely we end up with a non-profit like wikipedia provides basic knowledge to the public, free of charge.

People have sold weapons since shortly after the first weapon was made. Trade shows are a quite common way to sell stuff. Weapon shows aren’t really something new.

The pasta is another for customer, Iran in this case. I ordered a pizza and the pizza place said they could deliver that.

If i order a pizza and get a call they can’t deliver the pizza because they needed the cheese for the pasta, but also can’t give me my money back because when there is enough cheese again they still want to deliver the pizza, you would call that justified?

Easy way to discard the problem, those kind of things are never announced. European Union and Ukraine aren’t concerned about deliveries just for the fun of it.
