Ugh, man… this canned wassail is kinda skunky.

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•I was giving Enterprise another chance, and even Archer was starting to grow on me in season 2. Then season 3 happened and he became a war criminal.English
12·26 days agoIt’s common for terrible acts to go unpunished. There are lots of movies and shows where the bad guy wins. Many where you can’t even tell who the bad guy is. But they’re still good stories.
That’s kind of my point though, the show failed to make any statement about it, including this one. In fact, what you say here would have been an exceptional statement to make, especially considering the post-9/11 backdrop of this season’s arc. Instead they were just like, “ANYWAY, time for some timetravel shenanigans” or whatever the next season was doing, I don’t recall. That absence of comment is the failure the show makes is what I’m really saying.

14·26 days agoI think the character decisions were motivated, intentionally difficult to wrestle with and especially relevant for the time it was made. I think what makes the show unforgivable for it however, is the complete lack of consequences for those transgressions.
And before someone brings up DS9 and In the Pale Moonlight, I would point out that that entire episode was doing the work of questioning and condemning decisions just like this. It’s what ENT was missing.
“…as he thrust his purple-helmeted warrior into her quivering mound of love pudding…”
God I love SCP so much. Probably why I loved Control so much, it was like playing SCP: The Game or something.
- Hackers
- Kiki’s Delivery Service
- Whisper of the Heart
- Star Trek IV
Honorable mention: The Search for Animal Chin

Lots of great advice here but this stands out as a really good bit that a lot of people (including myself) need to consider.

memes@lemmy.world•I'm actually going to play this one, I promise
71·2 months agoSo I went to look up the origin of the image in this macro and it turns out that almost this exact meme (unplayed Steam games) was like the first iteration of it in meme form, appearing only a hour after the original photo was posted to Reddit.

I was really enjoying wallabag for a while, but after an update (or something?) the container no longer connects to the db and I haven’t been smart enough to figure out why yet.
BUT when it works it’s got a nice interface and the Firefox extension clips articles quickly. Biggest downside I’ve run into is the iOS app can’t make highlights or annotations, and it sometimes randomly reloads an article while reading and ‘forgets’ its place.

3·3 months agoDude when this was included in PS Plus I got fucking consumed by this game! It’s beautiful and brutal and relaxing all at the same time. I would play a Hawaiian playlist on the Spotify app while playing and it was supremely chill… until I died from shark or diarrhea. Like I say, an interesting cocktail of stress and relaxation. Happy to see it getting some love.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was hacking like in the '80s and '90s?
9·3 months ago“Draper heard about the whistle from other phreakers. The whistle easily played at 2600Hz, the perfect tone to, in Apple Inc. [co-founder Steve Wozniak’s words], “seize a phone line.”
Huh, I had always wondered why the hacking magazine was called 2600. Guess that explains it, neat!

3·5 months agoManual ordering of images in albums is an absolute must before I adopt any image management system. It’s wierd to me that seemingly none of the FOSS systems support it (considering that most of us are datahoading control freaks).

I started keeping a Note on my phone titled Game Diary with different sections for games I’m playing, and write down what I was doing, my train of thought and what I wanted to do next, things I had to check on our fix etc, at the time I put it down. It’s helped immensely when I come back to something after a while and encounter exactly what you’re talking about.
