North american here: I love Donald Duck. Lol. My mom used to a spot on Donald Duck voice to entertain us as kids. Told us he jumped out of the TV once and lived in her belly.

Sweet! Always love making new esoterically minded friends. My main is @dharmacurious@slrpnk.net I’ll message you from there
Mhmm, yup. We’re a denomination founded around the “Jesus fish.” During the reign of Henry the 8th there was a lot of controversy, because Catholics didn’t eat meat on Friday, and Henry wanted to murder his wife. But the pope said that wasn’t cool, because Henry wanted to do it on a Friday (so he could take the weekend to recover, y’know?), and the pope said that that fell under the whole no meat on Friday thing, since once someone is dead, they’re more meat-like, and Henry said that he wasn’t going to eat her, but the pope was like “still not cool, bro, do it on a Thursday” and Henry didn’t take kindly to bring called bro by a dude in a dress, so he founded the church of England (then called the Church in England), and he got to murder his wives, but in exchange for not crusading against England for doing this, Henry agreed to the popes compromise that they could murder wives on Friday, so long as they also ate fish.
Well, when the US was founded, we really took that whole fish thing and ran with it. Started putting little Jesus fish bumper stickers on our carriages, branding them on our horses, the whole shebang. By the time the US split from England, though, there were no bishops left that would ordain American clergy, so we went to the Scottish, and they ordained us a few starter bishops to get us through the lean times, but by then there were enough disagreements between us as the CoE that we decided to just go ahead and change the name, and now we exclusively eat fish, and we’re called Episcopalians.
Can we be friends? My best friend is also a former Baptist preacher who’s now a daoist/nondualist. I’m a nondualist who’s interested in daoism, and super interested in gnosticism (and occasionally an Episcopalian, especially on holidays ;) )

I’m a tech moron, but I’ve been on Linux of and on since like 07ish. Full time since 2015ish. Started with Ubuntu way back when, and I’ve jumped around from distro to distro. I’ve tried Manjaro, mint, opensuse… God, I can’t even tell you what else. I once installed that Miley Cyrus Linux and ran it for like a week as a gag. But from 2015 onward when I went full time I’ve basically just been in Fedora (including silverblue and Bazzite). I’ve got Ubuntu running on a mini PC I’m using to set up a server for jellyfin and a few other things. But as far as my daily driver goes, it’s almost always fedora. I just fucking love it.
But bear in mind here, I’m a pretty surface level user, so what I love is actually Gnome. Lol

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux phones are more important now than ever
1·5 months agoCan you explain how to do this? I’d make the switch, honestly. Not a super techy person, but I’m willing to learn if it means a Linux phone.

4·5 months agoThere is a movement to bring back the thorn. It’s actually pretty popular among English reformists. Personally, I’m in favor, but I generally don’t use it outside of certain communities, or when joking or making a point. Using it ‘in the wild’ is normally an attempt at normalizing it’s use. Personally, I’m on board, just not brave enough to be the odd one out. Especially since I’m also in favor of eth, eng, and interrobang (which I do use in the wild.). It’d make my writing too difficult for others to read it I included all of those in a normal post.
We do occasionally see a small surcharge in the US when using a card, but that’s regardless of method (swipe, insert, or tap). Very small businesses will often charge 1-5% for any debit or credit purchase, and cash price is the listed price. But again, that’s not tap specific
I’ve honestly never considered using my bank through a mobile browser. Yeah, it I can do that I’d be fine on that front.
Sniffies is completely dead here, and the dudes that are on it are gross. Grindr isn’t much better, but since everyone’s on it you can occasionally find people who are willing to use protection or hosting someone other than some bushes. I’ll try way droid and see if it works. If it doesn’t, I googled it and it says you can use Grindr from desktop if you pay… I may end up having to do that if I made the switch.
Which leaves cash app as the biggie. I’ll try waydroid, but if it doesn’t work I’ll probably end up needing to keep android or switching to iOS (I hate iPhones:( ), or maybe even getting a second phone I use exclusively for cash app. No sim, just my wifi hotspot (can you do a wifi hotspot with a Linux phone yet?). In order to prevent overdrafts and accidental charges, I never spend directly from my bank account. I transfer exactly what I’ll need for each purchase to cash app before the transaction and shop like that. Keeps me aware, and no accidental charges or surprises.
Help a non-techy out. I’ve fully switched my computers to Linux (fedora workstation, silver blue, and ubuntu). Been Linux only for several years now. Silverblue is probably my favorite. I’m willing to make the switch for my phone, too. But there are a few things I’m pretty reliant on:
My banking apps, cash app, and, embarrassing as it may be to admit, Grindr.
Any chance of getting those?
I’ve never seen a surcharge for tap to pay in the US. I’m not sure about elsewhere, but whether I’m tapping my car, my phone, or my watch I have never seen any surcharge from the retailer, my banks, or from Google.

World News@lemmy.world•Russia offers political asylum to Elon Musk over Trump feudEnglish
81·8 months ago“Elon has too much government information to go to Russia!”
Y’all, please, listen, Russia already has our government information. The important thing to note here is that whether Elon runs off to Moscow or not, Russia making the offer may well drive a wedge between Russia and Trump. That, in and of itself, is good news. Trump has very few political allies at this point, with most of the world turning against him and trusting the US less. If he is even further alienated, there’s a decent chance his party loses reelection or refuses to go along with his insane 3rd term plans. It’ll take us a long time to rebuild international goodwill, but alienating Trump is a good thing.
Happy to proven wrong is there’s an aspect I’m not considering here, but in my mind when the fascist fight each other it’s good for the rest of us. Makes them easier to tackle, especially if the nonfash (and specifically the left) can unify.

Linux Phones@lemmy.ml•What linux phone is closest to ready for daily use
0·2 years agoMaybe you can answer one for me, too. I’m not a coder or really great with computers. I use Linux because of the philosophy behind it/political reasons, and because I really love the look and feel of Gnome, and it has just about everything I need. I dual boot Windows in case my college has some program I absolutely have to have, and I’m too dumb to figure out virtual machines and wine.
Do you think Linux phones are ever going to be a viable option for someone like me? I use my phone for browsing Lemmy, gps, streaming/YouTube, audiobooks, et cetera. I don’t have a lot of niche use cases, but I also don’t have a lot of understanding on how to do certain things myself. I can use a terminal if I can copy/paste or have a guide.

She was pretty fucking awesome.
