We’ve just been watching latter Simpsons (seasons 10+) for the first time.

It’s fine. It’s obviously not golden age Simpsons, but it evens out.

If you just expect a decent animated show, rather than another 25 seasons of non-stop generation-defining excellence, you won’t be disappointed.

I love the earlier seasons and the references and quotes that came from them are great.

The new seasons feel soulless and the new voice actors make the show feel awkward, it feels like a disservice to let it become just average.

simpsons has gone on too long at this point, they need to let it go. even FAMILY guy is ending after 25 years, and the latest seasons were cringey.

I would say it’s more variable than average. The pointless shoe-horning of celebrities is annoying, but there are still plenty of great references and bits.

Halloween episodes are often good sometimes great. The Amazing Race parody fits a hilarious Who’s afraid of Virginia Wolf parody within it, that’s the most recent one we laughed a lot at. Some episodes are worth it for the couch gag alone - the bill plympton homer face one is so beautiful, whole seasons of crap would be worth it for that I think.

That’s exactly what I’ve been saying for years. Sure the “golden age” is over, but the “silver age” is still worth the time.

Plus characters like Shauna only appear later on. Shauna is a fun character to add to the town of Springfield.
