The European US-loyalists have screwed themselves to help the US in their proxy war against Russia only for the US to give up and leave Europe to deal with the fallout. They are desperately trying to keep the war alive while they scramble for a way to at least get something out of it.
Or perhaps this is sunk cost fallacy.
It’s the first thing, they are comprador regimes in a countries that are minor imperialist powers dependant on the crumbs and opportunities tossed and allowed them by the hegemon. But now the US imperialism is in trouble so the fattened dogs of US empire became its emergency food rations and they suddenly found their end of history peak becoming the hill they will die on.
it’s that, yeah, but also i think destroying russia has become a quasi-religious thing for the respectable liberals of europe. remember, these are the people who are still salty over istanbul. they’ll still be calling crimea ukrainian 500 years from now.
