Additionally, Samus debuted in a game with no characterisation, and iirc, you only found out she wasn’t a man when she stripped down at the end of the game if you did well.
Not a video game, but my personal gripe was when GitS SAC had awesome everything except for the weird out of place (and ugly tbf) outfit on MC Kusanagi.

Yeah, but I would wear skin-tight spandex if I looked like a super model, so it’s pandering to me specifically and I’m fine with that.
