Bird?
Pretty sure it’s a tree. But I am niether an expert on birds or trees.

Maybe house finch or purple finch? Both of those show up in Illinois.
I’m inclined to say male house finch. Finch beak shape, and the red on the upper chest and the brown streaks on the chest are there.
I couldn’t identify one of those if it flew into my face xD
It may help others though if you were to give a rough idea of what part of the world you’re in!
Looks a bit like a common Linnet, but without knowing where you saw it it is challening to be sure.
