Thanks for your well articulated response! I think Mumble might be my best bet. I personally love the idea of a hassle setting it up, but never having to touch it after. I’ve found most products I stick with are like that. I converted an old laptop with 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD with an AMD CPU into my server, so I don’t expect any issue with loads.

I’ve seen stoat around, and it is interesting. I’d like it as a replacement for discord I.e. large populous servers. For small chats, I think Mumble is my best bet.
Would it be something that I could add to my home server? I have a setup for Nextcloud, apache, Grocy, Jellyfin, etc. So, I didn’t know if I could just throw Mumble on there. In addition, I greatly appreciate that it’s barebones! I don’t want, or need, any of the extraneous stuff Discord has. I just want to voice chat, and text like the old AIM days.
I’m curious as to how big of a load you’ve put on the system, so far. Is it just the site? What’s the code for charging? Do you have it set to discharge to 30% then charge, or just charge to 80% whenever it’s discharged some arbitrary amount? Sorry for the questions, I’m incredibly fascinated by this project!
I was intrigued to find out that the research had been done years ago, unless my reading comprehension skills are awful. I wonder if this is the precursor to a lot of the carbon capture technology we have today. Or, if the technology hasn’t been scaled yet.
I started self-hosting! I got Nextcloud and Grocy set up! Jellyfin too, but I got some small issues to work out. Next up is, a workout application and home assistant. I’ll be transferring all my cams and stuff to HA. My whole family uses Signal, which is pretty cool. And I’m about to take the Graphene plunge, but I haven’t ROM hacked in years. I hear it’s super easy with Graphene, though.
As a parent, I should not have read this. I’m fucking sick to my stomach. I shudder at the complete lack of empathy and sympathy for these children and their families in the US. The American government can look at this and feel proud we supplied Israel with the munitions to kill so many children, senselessly. Callously. Hatefully. Fuck all wars. Fuck all death. Agreed! I’m working on converting my wife and the rest of my family to Linux. I got a nextcloud server set up, alongside Grocy, Jellyfin, and a few others. So far, it’s made our lives better! It works better than our Google calendar. Everyone has their own accounts and things are rarely breaking. It’s so nice.

I actually just had to deal with this! So, I ended up spending time troubleshooting and rewriting some .conf files for Apache.
I appreciate the response! When I set out to self-host, I made the decision to install everything separately, because I heard about docker and it sounded like, “plug in code and run”. And that’s something I didn’t want, only because it was a hobby and I wanted to learn more from a hands on experience. I learned a ton, sorting through those errors! If I did it over again, I’d probably use docker, based on your explanation, but I feel like that is an endeavor, in and of itself.
Why is this? I’ve never used docker before and when I set up my server a couple years ago, I installed Debian, Apache, and MariaDB and got everything set up relatively easily.
Well, I guess we’re done debating. It’s a shame, I hate ending debates in a draw. That’s on me, though. I got too emotional, because this is a topic that is deeply personal to me. Oh my gosh, you’re being pedantic. It has been used for “gender” ambiguity for quite some time. If you choose to be ignorant, then that’s your dill, pickle. At the end of the day, you get to choose whether you make someone happy, or sad. Why is that difficult? Why can’t you comprehend the concept of providing joy to someone? Why can’t you just be nice? Unfortunately, I am older than 30, my knees might be older, haha. Also, I’m not from GB/UK. I know grammar school nay have caused some ambiguity there, but grammar school is used in many English speaking countries. Usually, to refer to elementary, primary, or grade school.
Regarding your last diatribe, I didn’t even invoke transphobia. For someone so adamant on literal, linguistic definitions, you seemed to overlook the word bias. You have a predispositioned outlook towards trans people, because of your feelings on linguistic definitions. You inherently disregard hundreds of years of evolution in the English vernacular. Words have changed, evolved, and adopted different meanings throughout time. Do we need to cast out the word gay, because it now also means homosexual, when it originated as happy? Do we need to cast out the word terrific? You know, the word that was a synonym for horrific? I understand that you are ESL, but every language has different dialects, vernacular, and idioms. It’s why a thong in Australia is vastly different, than a thong in America. You can either adapt your knowledge of the language, or choose to emotionally hurt people on the premise of being “right and literal”. There is no need to create something new when society has deemed it acceptable. Just because you don’t, doesn’t mean everyone else is wrong. The question you must ask yourself is, “Do I care more about being right, or emotionally supporting another human being?”. Yeah, my ports are open for other uses on my server, so this isn’t an issue. But I have followed the advice of a cyber security friend who helped me fortify my server against any attacks. It was fun to find a note on my root of my server with instructions lol
