That’s the thing though, many american scientists who want to flee are ‘brown’ (hispanic, black, indian etc.) and/or queer, because that’s exactly the type of people who will suffer the most in the US.

This is about Germany, though. I don’t agree with the other person’s point, but at least in Germany, Ukrainian refugees are well-liked - I never hear anything bad about them even from the far right. Probably helps a lot that most of them are 1. white and 2. women and children.
I’m sure trying to take in americans (many of whom will not look like northern europeans) while having an extreme anti-immigration policy (e.g. in Germany) will go over well with no friction.
New lows every day. It’s astounding how one-sided our relationship with this ‘ally’ is, yet no one in charge seems to be willing to seriously question it.
I completely forgot that this guy was our foreign minister for over a year.
I did my part!
second largest.
Yeah, a lot of the problems that the AfD talk about are real (when they aren’t making up numbers about immigrants). It just sucks that the voters are flocking to the xenophobes instead of parties that at least try to improve things, and I think the latent xenophobia in a large part of the population (way more than 10%, though they’re not necessarily all as extreme as those 10%) is a big reason why. And propaganda, of course.
Xenophobia is pretty much a human constant, though. That’s why it’s so easy to exploit.

They are staunch defenders of rightwing policy when they are in coalitions with parties that are more leftwing than they are. See: Gerhard Schröder’s Agenda 2010.
Ugh. How much cheaper would solar panels in Europe be in the first place without forced labor? This doesn’t seem like a particularly labor-intensive industry if you aren’t needlessly cruel about it and wages in the chinese periphery would already be very low compared to the EU.
The issue might be that this isn’t actually a negative for the government and its cronies. They want to control their population and making everyone poorer actually helps with that. It could lead to a large-scale rebellion, but I think the conservative brainwashing is far along enough that most conservatives and especially the MAGAs will just ignore it.
They’re very loud, but it’s time for the citizens in all of Europe to show them that facism is in fact not popular.
Isn’t it, though? I’m kind of losing my faith about that, recently.
If the majority actually supported him, he wouldn’t need to dismantle rule of law in his country. I suppose after enough propaganda (his cronies control most of the media) most of the population will probably support him, but I find it hard to blame the common men and women for that.
“Russian” is a pretty severe accusation in this context. Possibly deserved if they actually furthered a Russia-friendly agenda, but you didn’t even make an attempt at substantiating your accusation.
Do you have any criticisms about this post beyond name calling?
Many european ‘leaders’ seem pretty fond of them, actually. Orban, Meloni, Merz … even Finland’s Stubb recently visited Trump to play a nice round of golf.
Yeah. Someone has to put in the work for packaging an application if you want it as a .deb/.rpm etc. package and deal with any bugs that might come up, and it’s not going to be me (speaking as a user, not a developer).
That said, I also painted myself into a corner when it comes to harddrive space. LUKS can be complicated, man …
Scientists who are black, hispanic etc. are “more wealthy and better educated than average”, though.
