Maybe. The documentation is a bit unclear in areas. If you get through the setup script and have the system installed. Its just using the scripts to set up a desktop. Then it really behaves like any other distro.

Hey you tried it. That’s an achievement. Good job. Sorry it didn’t work out.
I have been using alpine on a Chromebook. Its similar to Debian, but is very small. I use sway on Wayland, its not hard to learn, but most desktops are available. If your just playingwithe the laptop, try it out. Following the instructions is not as hard as it seems. https://alpinelinux.org/

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•What are your favorite open source 3D printers?
1·6 months agoMy claim was I didn’t know of any others. I’ve seen rat rig and voron. I’m not sure if they are really open source. I tried to contact them last year, but the documentation was locked. I’ll favorite your list flow when I get some time. I’d love to build something like my first reprap.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•What are your favorite open source 3D printers?
2·6 months agoOther than prusa, I’m not sure of any you can purchase. Of the build yourself ones, they are variants of prusa. Or corexy. For a bedslinger, I built a bear upgraded prusa Mk something. But custom, so not exactly. For my next, it will be a variation of a corexy. Smash together a voron and the other popular one. Because I don’t like the bed design.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•BL A1 Textured PEI plate, print is warping. What to try first?
2·6 months agoI’d try raising the temp on the heat bed and maybe on the extrusion for the first layer.
The bed arcs up in the middle when it heats, so it may also be an issue with z offset. If it is 0.35 in the middle, but 0.45 at the edge, you might just need to smoosh the first layer more. Speed also effects first layer, so slowing down sometimes helps.
Find a big flat one layer test print and see what helps. Just don’t doal bunch of changes at once.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you've recovered from depression, what did it feel like?
11·6 months agoDepression is so very hard. Its unbelievably hard. I spent most of my life depressed. 13 to 50. Not being depressed is weird. I don’t know who to live without it. I tried drugs, they made it worse. Suicidal tendencies made it hard to take drugs. My first break was laughing at a kids movie, it was a real laugh. I broke down and cried. It was the beginning of getting rid of depression. Maybe 10 years before I was out of it. Things slowly changed. Lines like, “it is what it is,” helped. I work on mindfulness. I avoid thinking about anything that has negative emotions. Really, I avoid thinking. Mostly, you need to change the way you think and behave. I am not the person I was. I act and do things differently. Be willing to change anything to get out of it. Fear of change kept me in it for a long time. Good luck. You are not alone. You might be able to become a survivor. Keep trying.
Sure, that is really the reason for scripting. They are called cron jobs, because they run on a schedule. Its a command called crontab. Unix is all about doing things automatically. Takes a bit of time to set up, but then it does what you want, when you want it. Your going to love it once you use it. Edit: spelling

Linux@lemmy.ml•Just got a new GPU, why is it so hard to use it?
10·7 months agoWhen Linux boots, it does not always use the first port on the video card. Sometimes the bios will display on the onboard video, then when the kernel boots, it will change to a different video port. I find with multiple video ports, its best to plug in all of them till you figure out which ones work. Nvidia is not well supported, and most video cards have problems in Linux. Generally, if you have to use a proprietary driver, it will have specific issues. The free drivers will just be buggy. Best is to see what cards are known to work well. There are maintained, well there used to be, lists of hardware that works well. If you installed proprietary drivers, they are often difficult to remove. There is not always instructions on how to uninstall. So part of your problems might be the drivers.
So that would be just a script in Linux. Bash, the shell for the command line, allows for scripting. Its like a simple program that you can set to run at times. Might take a few tries to get it right, but a little reading and a few tries anyone could get something like that working.
Sounds like a nifty program. Is this something you use a lot? What’s the use case? While I know extracting files is not difficult in Linux, there are a lot of different compressed file types. Most have some Linux alternative. Linux is different from windows, in that most things that require a separate program to be installed, are usually default operations. Most file managers offer to compress or extract in the right click menu. Try a live distro for a few days. It will blow your mind.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Destroyed my Glass Print Bed - What to do nowEnglish
3·8 months agoIt might come loose if you heat the heat bed. At least soften enough to pry it off. The other option would be to finish breaking the glass. Then you could use acetone, or something to remove the glue.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Destroyed my Glass Print Bed - What to do nowEnglish
5·8 months agoYou might consider a aluminum heat bed with a regular piece of glass on top. Look up heat beds on reprap and see how the diy community does it. They are cheap and easily replaced. I just print on the aluminum with painters tape. Sorry that it fractured like that, it happens. So having the glass glued down is not a good plan.
Right now, the open source community has so many different ways to communicate.
The problem is what is the goal, privacy or security.
All seem to have benefits and problems.
I use conversations and delta chat. I don’t know what is best. But it is better that anything that is owned by big corps.
