As of March 29, Version 0.23.3 seems to have fixed things again, if anyone finds this thread now.
FreeTube is not working for me either. For now though, I can get the preview and then copy the URL for videos I really want to watch. Then I grab them with Open Video Downloader and watch it in VLC.

As someone else noted, they use a platform called Fireside. I wonder how hard it would be to self-distribute a podcast with thousands of listeners.

Thanks for this idea - the counting would be easy, but I don’t have anywhere to store the numbers. With my free Netlify account and my static web site, I don’t have a DB and and can’t write to a file when someone visits, at least not that I know of.
And it was the advertisers who complained and won this case. This might still be a win for data privacy, if Apple leaves control over ads in the users’ hands.
