  • I’m in my 50s, always feel like an alien, and still think I’m 19yo. Was diagnosed with "Asperger’s (known as HFA os ASD mostly these days) about 10 years ago.

You will never not feel this way, but I see it like we’re playing the world on hard mode so every success means so much more to me.

You have to constantly work on your mental health and general attitude to life. Try to prioritise what is actually important so you can let the other (NT bullshit) stuff go. And watch out for the signs you are getting too comfortable and are about to get things wrong. Bottom line for me is to never give up, you can learn how to get on in life.

I’m guessing that wasn’t what you wanted to hear.

We each have different challenges. I decided years ago to try to understand people like I understand machines. It has mostly worked for me.

  • Are you able to enable the Air function or doing any routing on your focusrite? I’ve found a way to handle sample rates on Topping Pro 2x2, and on my old focusrite 2i2. But input delays through the audio layers in linux are slower than windows and mac.

I should clarify my original comment. I’m looking for full feature parity out of the box and not having to devise some sort of work around or relay on a 3rd party and hope they don’t stop maintaining it.

It is a real frustration, I use my linux install as must as I can but somethings are limited by the lack of 1st party support.

  • Adding my voice to the hardware compatibility issue. While most hardware just works, Linux usually lacks the ability to configure the device. Audio interfaces are a good example of this. They work but you can’t set the sample rate or enable any custom features on ANY of them.

I believe government regulators should step in and require hardware manufacturers to provide Linux support equal to Windows or Mac. This could be relaxed for low volume or highly specialised devices, but mainstream consumer stuff should be more universal.

  • I dual boot Windows and EndeavourOS. I’ve got a range of games running great on Linux, performance does take a hit in most cases but as long as you have good hardware and aren’t chasing ultimate FPS numbers, it is usually acceptable.

I wish I could make the full switch but music recording just isn’t a good experience on Linux. High latency, lack of audio device configuration, and a limited range of instruments and effects (VST files), all means a Mac or Windows are the only options.

  • Reality check here. If morals or personal philosophy means the most to you, then self hosting is really the only honest choice, assuming you then buy merch from artists. If features and library size are most important then you probably need Spotify. All the other worthwhile options might come with a good USP but they’re usually flawed in comparison to Spotify.

Screw AI music, but it is on every platform. Spotify is just a victim of its success in this regard.

Edit: not a fanboi btw, just a dad with a family who likes to use Spotify. I have to pay for YT premium as well so the kids don’t get ADs on their stupid iPhones. If the YT music app wasn’t so shit I’d dump Spotify and make everyone switch, proving my point.

  • I’m on the yearly trip to linux land. The one thing that bothers me is hardware support, specifically configuration of hardware devices. My external audio device (Focusrite 2i2) works fine but there is no easy to change the bit rate etc without messing with core config files. This is the sort of thing that should be in the GUI already. My PS5 controller works as well but I can’t make it automatically go to sleep after 5 mins. Also HDR support is still missing.

That said, so far I’m finding ways to do what I need, but it is clear Linux still has much to improve if it hopes to attract more windows users.
