Im just saying Gnome is the most popular choice on Linux and for a good reason, its a modern UI

Its absolutely ugly and has a very non modern interface, anyone who tries it as their first OS will probrally be convinced Linux is stuck in 2005. Tbh Fedora should be considered the default these days.

Hopefully this means I can have a GraphineOS laptop (whenever google makes a new Pixel Laptop)

Then get an old librebooted Thinkpad X230 with Arch GNU/Linux (and remind eveyone it’s GNU + Linux) :3

Obviously they have their reasons but few people are willing to pay a ton of money for a laptop with designs that while custom arent groundbreaking or particularly unique

They’re also insanely expensive

More importantly good software, Mobile Linux still sucks

• Shell: Fish (has powerful auto-complete, very fast, written in rust)
• Montior: Btop (monitors all system resources and processes)
• Fetch: Fastfetch (perfect for showing off on !unixporn@lemmy.world, for !unixsocks@lemmy.blahaj.zone Hyfetch is reccomnded)
• Brower: BrowSH (its a browser in your terminal)
• Text Editor: Vim (the best text editor, remeber to use esc + : + q to close or wq to write close vim. However when you open vim you can never quit)
• File manager: Ranger (if cd + ls is too inconvenient)
• Games (yes you can even play games in the terminal): 2048, Chess-TUI, NSnake, and Micro Tetris

Yeah Linux is absolutely not a major OS (nor will it ever be)

Yeah but all self hosting software is TUI, I mean sure you can use a GUI but at the end of the day you’ll need to use a terminal emulator to acturally run the software so there isnt much point in the overhead

This is literally lemmy, a (relatively) niche platform where somebody is asking about a (relatively) niche subject. I dont think anything about this is a average person. Also im viewing this through realistic lenses, enterprise software developers fund TTY server grade software and people like you who complain about that are very rarely the type of people who contribute or make software. Yeah sorry but imagining is worthless unless you can code and your complaints come off as entitled whining.
