politics @lemmy.world•‘We lose the midterms’: Republicans worry Iran might have already cost them Congress
17·20 hours agoIt gets much worse in coming months.
2027 budget cuts 10% from non-military, requests $600B more permanent military. Adds $200B special funding to rebuild from Iran fiasco.
Getting a peace deal with Iran with just nuclear and SoH demands will need $100B in commitments to pay Iran.
No peace deal, just leave, will put GCC allies in Iran/China camp instead of US. Zionazi congress, led by GOP, will push for more Israel gifts. Controlled DNC opposition, Schumer, will get primaried and lose their zionazi purpose.
Asian colonies will need to get closer to China to have access to oil.
Giving Europe colonies freedom (NATO exit threats), will worsen US economic perfromance. World in general will move away from oil/NG use, that the US is all in on.
Best chance for GOP is to impeach Trump/Hegseth.
You don’t amass 6 bankruptcies by not going all in on a pair of 2s very often.
Could not pay me to eat that.

News@lemmy.world•Concern after traders bet millions on oil minutes before Trump’s peace talks’ post
9·1 day ago$200B of oil contracts were liquidated/stop lossed in about 1 hour.
Margin is such on oil futures that 6 million barrels only costs $60m to “control”. $20 drop in oil price is $120m in profits on that $60m bet.

World News@lemmy.world•Pentagon threatened the pope after he criticized TrumpEnglish
3·1 day agoThe Church started/was named by a global empire. By the time of Constantine, who would preside over Church commandment debates from the Pope’s throne, Jesus’s peace/humanism was erased from the church in favour of old testament’s divine right of emperor to kill and steal. Heresy laws applied to interpreting bible as humanist Jesus instead of the blessing of warmongering.
Pope really needs to undo the pre dark ages warmongering changes to Christianity. Jesus was a reformer. Yahweh a demon son that usurped his father El. Jesus’s father god was El not Yahweh.

1·2 days agoLosing wars someone started has happened many times. Other ends of empires were both invasion of Russia related. Can include Ukraine, to everyone here’s anger. GDP down 75% since 2014 US nazification. What were the big ending mistakes of British, Spanish, Dutch, Roman empires? I’m sure a common thread of belief in own supremacy extending their actual power was at play.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Scam Altman says it’ll take another year before ChatGPT can start a timer. An $852 billion company, ladies and gentlemen.
2·2 days agoclimate crisis doesn’t cost anything from an energy perspective. Just freedom of competition. renewable energy can outcompete incumbent energy, and a carbon tax and dividend scheme (0 cost) ensures the full (future) cost of dirty energy is considered.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•when robots have all the jobs, who's gonna buy all the stuff?
2·2 days agoWith MechaHitler controlled robots, you will compete with all of the other sharecroppers to pay your robot rental fess with your mechahitler minion’s work’s revenue. If you get rich from this scheme, Musk will increase supply of robots so that more competition to your income stops you from being rich.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•when robots have all the jobs, who's gonna buy all the stuff?
1·2 days agoFirst, we need high tax rates, and freedom dividends. This allows entire society to benefit from productivity increases.
Work being more entrepreneurial and sales/financing focused, lets people (who are supported by UBI/freedom dividends) invest their time in designing products and services that can rent robots/computers/AI to deliver profitable value to consumers, who because of UBI/freedom dividends can afford said value.

politics @lemmy.world•Iran war live: Trump agreed to suspend 'bombing and attack' of Iran for two weeks
2·2 days agoThe point of the ceasefire is the realization of US impotence. They’ve run out of targets, and their navy is incapable of getting closer than 1000km to Iran coast.
The point of surprise attack on Pope, and girl’s school, without getting world/allies aligned for war against Iran, was “this was the last best chance” to stop Iran’s ascension. That stupidity is the result of Israel first rule over America, where Israel’s goal is entirely “ending Iran civilization”. and Trump is seriously stupid, surrounded by Mossad agents, and bibi knows everything (on Trump) Mossad agent Epstein gathered from his honeypot scams.

5·3 days agoThe 10 point plan Trump mentions is all Iran demands. Iran with Pakistan confirmation has said the ceasefire is in place with Iranian control over SoH shipping.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your preferred form of proportional representation, and why?
1·3 days agoYou can sell your vote, but change it back after paid. You can cause revote from outrage that something passed with consequences that were unknown to most. There can/should be constitutional protections against certain laws.
Liquid democracy is implemented through blockchains, 1 vote per account, and means to ensure 1 account per real citizen. If a corrupt policy steals $150m from society, then $1 to 150m voters may get it to pass the first time. Bribed make a net 50c. Corrupt gains 0. A trace of those payments, may be cause for a/many revotes, where the corrupt must keep the bribery program. Representatives who take the corrupts bribe will lose delegates, and have other delegates demand their share of the bribe.
These are better checks on corruption than any existing rulership system.
sorry, yes.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your preferred form of proportional representation, and why?
1·4 days agoJust worse than direct/liquid democracy.

less reliance on fuel imports always improves independence. Incumbent power plants available as backup/option improves resilience and independence as well. It doesn’t need to be all or nothing, and renewables don’t stop new oil projects for exports. Carbon accounting (tax) is entirely attributed to consumers of energy/product+delivery.
The true failure of the golden democracies is their totalitarian subservience to US warmongering enemy propaganda. US empire/CIA serves US champions for extortionist power, and even their dabbling in green policy was was a corporate supremacist model for minnows, that got shot down by incumbent oligarchy. It is colonial subjugation that is 100% responsible for energy vulnerability, because it embraces one’s own extortion. Russian sanctions and self terrorism on Nordstream as prior examples.
