We need sites that are decentralized and make clear where their funding comes from. In the end, users need to be prepared to fund the services they use to keep them honest. This is especially true of video which is very expensive to host.

YouTube on mobile is intolerable these days. NewPipe is the way for Android, though Google is in a constant battle to disable it.
Preventing total exploitation harms corporate short-term profits.
Also, in Windows when you finally do run the program it just hangs with “Not responding”.
This may be due to manufacturers locking their machines down with Secure Boot and only installing the keys that allow it to boot Windows. It’s not something that could be fixed by the makers of the Linux install disk. They’d need to persuade the hardware manufacturer to preinstall their key.
I install Linux on many machines each year, and I can’t even remember the last time I had a problematic installation. Your experience sounds quite unusual. Are you using some obscure distro?
I think they meant you’d have to design a combination of hardware that’s all compatible with Linux - that is, that has Linux driver support.
They would do Greenland first, probably, because then they’d have Canada surrounded entirely by the USA and Russia.
They’d probably side with Denmark, but what that would amount to in practice is quite uncertain. They would be under a good deal of pressure not to further aggravate the situation and to let it go while making token gestures of solidarity. I don’t share people’s faith here that they’d fight the USA.
You are quite right. There is no guarantee that other NATO powers would fight for Greenland. There’s lots of room for them to use their own judgement about what action to take. And the article doesn’t at all seem to have in mind the scenario where NATO attacks itself.
Many cloud providers are using Amazon or Google under the hood. They’re effectively resellers. But yes, I need to do more searching for those that have their own infrastructure.
What are the non-US alternatives to AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.? Boycotting the USA needs to include switching from these, and from Visa, MasterCard, etc. Otherwise even when we switch away from US services, underneath the surface the money and data are still finding their way to the USA.
In Canada a municipality is something else - a town or township, or a small region, governed by a municipal government (council). A riding is an electoral district in a federal or provincial election.
Are you talking about Teams in Teams for Home or Teams for Work and School, and is it Teams or New Teams you mean?
I read that Canadian tourism to the USA is down by 85%. And yet I bet the tourist industry has its share of Trumpers.
You want me to list every US tech company that provides an online service? That’s absurd. Am I supposed to be proving that there are more than three companies in the USA that do this?
Not all online services are streaming media services. There are lots of other US services to get away from.
Does this have anything to do with the CEO expressing his support for Trump? I can’t imagine how, but there are some odd decisions being made at Proton lately.
Maybe it’s a company with only 3 customers.
How is discoverability in PeerTube? That was the sticking point for me with PeerTube as with Mastodon last time I looked. It was not easy to discover what’s out there.
