I agree with you. Artists aren’t a neat, blackbox they can shove instructions into and get out a perfectly formed product on the first round, but neither is anybody else.
That said, artists aren’t the only group of workers they hope to replace with AI.
Same here. Every now and then I need to disable ublock Origin and reload to make a form with too many external dependencies work correctly.
Yet another reason to be dissatisfied with employer provided health insurance. They want to be the provider of health insurance coverage so that its availability can be used as leverage against workers, and if you need to actually use in any significant way you’ll be punished.
I know not everyone would agree with this, but I think art is an important part of society and failing to foster it leads to negative outcomes. Despite this, there is not always a “free market” purpose to sponsor artists. I think this has been acknowledged in the past and the gap has been filled by wealthy patronage and state sponsorship for the arts, but these sources of funding can have an outsized affect on the shape of the art it produces. I’m not sure I have a solution to that, outside of perhaps a universal basic income that allows people to pursue creative expression without fear of becoming destitute.
And I’m tempted to say “not everyone with a deviantart profile is contributing positively to the culture” but honestly, who am I to make that judgement?
All that said, yeah, I don’t think we need to be reverent of individual artists any more than we should be for anyone else filling a role in society.
We didn’t do that here in America, because perversity is a human right in MAGA America.
To be fair, “MAGA America” is no more responsible for the lack of a law than, e.g. Obama America. I think it’s more likely because Americans are less likely to be in close enough proximity to strangers to have up-skirt photos taken than in Japan and South Korea which do have these laws. That’s not to say we don’t have unscrupulous perverts of course, I remember a man being ejected and banned from a convention I attended because he was walking around with a phone on a selfie stick held low and beneath other people. Bizarre behavior.
(Edit: I looked into it more, and it’s not really clear to me that Japan has any actual laws about this, I found a lot of conflicting info. It seems it may be an Industry self-regulation thing in Japan, and also you didn’t actually say anything about laws in the first place. South Korea does have relevant laws though.)

Basically I said that complaining about a paywalled article in comments is annoying and contributes nothing, especially if it’s from an independent long form writer. If someone links to paid media and you don’t want to pay, the post isn’t for you. Just go away. (Or participate in the comments anyway, people don’t read the articles most of the time regardless.)

Yeah! I used to use it as my default browser back when it was viable to do so. Dolphin can do all of that pretty well except browse the web. I do kinda wish there was an excellent KDE web browser. Falkon might be nice, but I’d really need a way to integrate with Bitwarden/Vaultwarden.

I use kate for almost everything. I can open and edit files over sftp, and it has a terminal like vscode as well. I should try vscode again, it’s been a while.
Maybe I misunderstand the parking pass thing, but I’m not sure why you would get the money back just because you didn’t use it. My assumption (which may be wrong!) is that while you had that pass, capacity was allocated to you and could not be sold to someone else. Like buying a seat ticket for a show and not showing up.
That said, I wouldn’t be shocked to learn that isn’t quite the case. I should probably give you the benefit of the doubt.

I know you know this, but PC RAM is useful for a lot more than games. Workstation PCs are where I find this situation really hurts. I suppose that to an extent, some of what you describe might apply to development and design tools.
Before this shortage took off, I got a rock-5-itx (ARM computer) with a whopping 32GB of RAM which was definitely overkill for the home server I use it as, but now it feels insanely decadent. I’m looking for ways to utilize it, like running Immich with the full AI facial recognition features and whatnot, Nextcloud with the full text search, etc.
I think the idea is that you can use different tokens for each thing.
Mine is “hence why,” I become irrationally irritated when I see it, but try to harbor no malice towards people I see using it.
Yeah, I didn’t mean to cast doubt on what you observed, just to say that using a VPN might introduce an abnormal circumstance. I am curious to see for myself. I’m actually hoping to find a different result because man… That is dark.
I think I sympathize completely. I find even people I ostensibly agree with on almost everything to sometimes be obnoxious. I think different people are looking for different things when it comes to using these platforms and this sometimes leads to poor results.
Go try it. Use a VPN to block your IP, make a brand new account from a brand new email address and pop on and off a few times. I gaurantee that their shorts section will show you little girls in bikinis or skin tight leotards doing “gymnastics” that aren’t actually gymnastics. Click on one of them and read the insane comments from men very clearly saying they want to fuck these children.
I might actually try this, but it’s worth noting that using a commercial VPN isn’t exactly picking a pristine IP address at random, it’s using an IP address that thousands of other people use for who-knows-what.
JavaScript and rendering performance as well as USB hardware access if you’re doing something like playing a browser based emulator. Pretty niche, but it’s a usecase that is much more poorly served by Firefox.
