Friends is an extremely boring and formulaic show, it just has handsome people in it and sometimes the ladies don’t wear bras. I much prefer Seinfeld, which was in a way revolutionary for sitcoms, and it can still be enjoyed today (the laugh track is unfortunate though). It definitely inspired It’s Always Sunny, another great show, whilst Friends inspired How I Met Your Mother… and you can draw your own conclusions from that. 😅

I mean, he did say “can’t” not “shouldn’t”. Not a problem of ethics but military capacity, lol. 😔

I’m glad to hear it, but I think you misread me at the end. I wasn’t throwing accusations at OP, but at the downvoters who, in my view, can only fall into one of two camps.

Meta: Why is your post downvoted? Usually I understand whatever silly ideas/immature attitudes happen to be behind them but this time I’m confused. It can’t be angry mods who already feel called out, right? That would be too pathetic of them, so I don’t wanna consider it.

Add to that the well known atrocities committed against the Chinese in WW2, backed and fueled by an ideology of racial supremacy, and you can see why they could see eye-to-eye with the West. 🤷

Hasn’t been my experience (I haven’t been to Japan yet, I know they’re xenophobic, lol) but I bet they’re not violent or historically, extremely inhuman about it. And if Lemmy was a majority Japanese site, I also wouldn’t be surprised if most people here held some racist/xenophobic beliefs, of course! They kind of are the Germanics of the East after all, lol. Idk what this means, are you a black guy telling me “it’s not just Westerners!” (ofc, there’s even colourism in African communities, I know because I married into one!) for whatever reason or are you a white dude saying the same? Cause, if it’s the latter, you’re just making my point…

I do it all the time, even calling out my female friends on bad behaviour which is a big nono in public settings (I’m a married man, I know, lol), but it requires a soft approach (a “compliment sandwich”, for instance) or else everyone starts getting sensitive and feisty, and because of that many people would just rather stay quiet and avoid doing it. In my understanding that nobody wants to be a villain/annoying cunt, I try to tell those I care about so they don’t ruin their lives unnecessarily, and I’m not scared of the confrontation that might result from it as I see it as part of the process.

Right now, you’re coming across as a very reasonable guy with more than appropriate communication skills… If you’re asking for yourself, it would be hard to determine if there’s anything weird/off-putting about you just from this post, sadly. In my experience, some of my less savoury traits HAD been called out, numerous times, but without the right attitude, wording or in a setting that would make me dismiss it. It wasn’t until later when these traits showed up in shocking, scary ways, that I started putting 2 and 2 together and looking back at what people had told me about myself. Maybe I’ll start a call line or discord chat where we can all interact and call each other out when necessary, in brotherly love… sounds like a fun project. 😅

At some low point in my life I binge-watched the entirety of “How I Met Your Mother”… Trust me, you cannot hurt me the way I’ve hurt myself. 😔🤣

I feel like it’s always not POC who feel weird about it. Lemmy is a Western site, Westerners are known for being not just racist but violently racist (white supremacy is the “ideology” that allows for colonization and Transatlantic slave trade after all, and places like America have ICE for brown people and the police for black people, many of these folks will just end up being incarcerated and enslaved like back in the day), plus American current admin is openly and loudly racist amongst other things so why should it be surprising that some racist takes/vibes would be felt in a Western (mostly American?) site? You might not notice, ofc, the way a fish doesn’t notice water, but you should expect it at least in theory.

You’re telling on yourselves: you’re either a POS white supremacist in denial, or you’re weak minded and scared of potential accountability to the point you’d rather deny the experience of those who have suffered because of an ethnocultural trait of your peoples. Of course, it’s better to be the latter than the former. 👍

I mean, America likes to destroy civilizations (a country that has Native genocide as its origin story), it’s the anti-civ “civ” after all, so I guess it is an American failure. Now, those now left in power in Iran could still sell off the country to Western oligarchs, which would be a victory for America but that’s still seemingly undecided.

Definitely my dad. Just an irresponsible, immature, shallow, hedonistic, unstable, violent and dishonest silly man. And from what I understand, my grandpa might have been even worse (but I don’t think my dad met him until he was in his 30s). I’ve had to rewrite my brain many times to unfuck whatever his presence fucked up but, as malleable as the mind and brain are, some things can’t change and I just have to live with them.

He wasn’t 99% evil or anything, but that’s rare if even possible. He was definitely more selfish, problematic and uncaring than not though, and he messed with enough lives that Hell is more than warranted for him, I think. 🤔

South Korea is almost laughably dystopic. The all-consuming obsession with pop artists and world renowned vanity and love for plastic surgery weren’t enough? Whatever Koreans over there were before the Burgers fucked them up mentally with their antihuman ideology/attitudes is dead, now there’s only dysfunction, superficiality and hedonistic nihilism. 😭
