  • I am against bringing back the old-style conscription here in Germany. First, it is limited to male youths only - a no-no in the 21st century. Second, it is designed as “military first, anything else second, and only with a good reason”, another idea that belongs to the past.

And, seriously. the German army could not deal with it. Since we halted conscription, the army has done a big and painful transformation into a professional military force, They could not house nor train those masses of unwashed kids anymore, and would basically have to regrow that part from the start.

What Germany could do is install a mandatory service time for all - men and women - with one option being the army, but with a strongly limited number of recruits.

  • You are either naive or new to this planet. If you tell industry that this or that thing is voluntary, it will definitely not happen. There must be thousands of examples out there. “Voluntary” regulation never worked on this planet.

If you want industry to do something, there is the stupid way of bribing them into it, and the smart way of simply forcing them to comply. If you do the latter, they will still squirm, complain, and demand money (loads of money!) to follow the law. If you forgot to define fines for non-compliance or made them too small, they won’t follow the law, either, of course, so the fines have to be painful enough so they can’t just file them away as “costs of doing business”.

  • Three times I have tried to get a grip on Blender, and have given up. You have to dig deep to put something on precise coordinates, and if you click something wrong, everything is fucked up with the UI without a way back. Documentation is random YT videos that all seem to assume that you already have a blender diploma.

With openscad, it took me half a day from installing the software, doing tutorials to finished design.
