Thank you. That was the plan. Looks like a fun project and it always amazes me how resourceful and thoughtful all of my kids are. It’s the sort of project that will make him think, and appreciate the finished product in a way that the preassembled one wouldn’t.

Theoretically, but not practically. At the equator, you would need to be travelling at over 1,700kph.
At around 60° north or south, the required speed slows to a little over 1,600 mph, still over 1,000 mph.
Commercial airliners typically travel at around 800kph.
Absolutely. The only wild card is the US military base in Greenland. Revoke all permissions for US soldiers to leave the base. Make it an offence for them to be outside the perimeter. If they are caught, arrest them, and deport them. Then work on dismantling the base

It wasn’t easy getting into that routine. I get up at 4:30 for my weekday walk, and it takes about an hour. Weekend walks start at 5:00am, and generally take 1.5-2 hours. Gym is two hours, once or twice during the week and both weekend days. Life still gets in the way sometimes, and I am lucky that my job is flexible. For example, I started work at 6:30 this morning and will knock off at 2:30 and go straight to the gym. I will be home before 5:00.
The alternative was living with the results of an injury and letting my health deteriorate further than it already had. Some days, motivation is still hard.
Walk 5km a day during the week, and 8-10km a day on weekends. Weights three to four times a week, and a cardio session afterwards. I like using the ski machine, as it gives me a serious workout without any impact.
Weights has had a huge impact on my quality of life, as I am recovering (recovered?) from a serious head injury. I was not active for nearly 18 months and am feeling good about my body for the first time in years.

Thanks for the input. There is a lot to think about, and whilst $1,000 is ok, if I can get a good result for less, then I have no objections to that.
People here have given great advice, and have given me a good base to start my research. I have about seven weeks until his birthday, which gives me time to research and order.
