AI needs huge amounts of text to train on. Icelandic is a language with few speakers and and if there is not enough training material around, you can’t train a usable AI. If you suspect that people in the future will use more and more AI to create texts, that is a problem for those languages.

If you go to france, you will see a lot of burger and other quick service restaurants. And they are also quite popular with the natives and not only in touristy areas. The whole idea of french food snobbery really is snobbery of a small elite, but normal french people are totally in line with the rest of the world.

It’s not only an issue when you hit people: Higher cars like SUVs, but also those sprinter vans, camping cars, trucks, pickups and so on are higher than most pedestrians. So if they are parking at the side of the road, motorists can’t see what is happening on the sidewalk. They can’t see if there is a cyclist or if someone wants to cross at the intersection. And that is one cause of all those deadly accidents while turning.
That’s exactly what I wanted to say: 30 is one of the most common speeds in the EU. They are not new and have been around since the 70s/80s. Cities are pushing for 30 as a default speed. You have thousands and thousands of kilometres of residential streets with T30. If you do not optimize for that as a manufacturer, you shouldn’t build cars.

There are several graphs floating around showing the fuel consumption at 30 compared to 50 with different gears. It depends on your car and the gear used if 30 uses more fuel than 50. If your car uses more fuel for slower speeds and for such a common speed as 30, the manufacturer is an idiot. There are so many 30 zones in Europe that it really is not an argument against them that a car manufacturer can’t build proper cars.
And since we are also switching to electric cars, that problem will go away in the next decade or two.
Your error is thinking about “fuel”. It is the stated goal of the EU to push electronic cars and it totally doesn’t matter if some legacy technology is not working perfectly on safe roads.

Let’s be honest: This is military technology camouflaging itself as civilian tech. It totally doesn’t make any sense for the proposed uses, but it totally is worthwhile for military purposes. Jihadist sneaking up onto your base in Bagdadh in the night? Light up the sky! Russian drone attack when it’s dark? Light up the sky! That border to north korea? Eternal sunshine! Your B2 and B52 bombers are on the way? Confuse your enemy by switching the sun on and off! Protect your convois by always have them drive in the night!
I disagree with you - great post about an interesting tool.
I kind of understand it for some special occasions (like a costume party), but I never heard from people that they are really buying clothes to wear once. It’s expensive as fuck even with those cheaper prices - just imagine having to buy a new trouser for 15€ and a new shirt for 10€ every day.

It’s totally infuriating how that goes. Every few years some serial killer is exposed working in hospitals or care homes. Sobody really cares. This news about a serial killer killing 10 is not even headline news. Others have killed over 80 people and nobody really cares, nobody is trying to improve the situation so that people like them can’t kill. But if some migrant harms someone with a knife, everybody totally freaks out.
The wiki principe of multiple people editing articles and articles integrating multiple viewpoints based on good sources totally fails if there is no common ground left for people to agree. You can’t write an article if some editors are accusing the subject of the article of commiting genocide while others think that they are waging a justified war of defense. Or if some people think that Donald Trump is the saviour of the United States that will make it great again and other people have more sensible views on him.
Ignore the big cities and the popular markets. You want to visit one in a small town, where local groups have set up their stands to support the local sports team, where the football club is selling bratwürste and everything has a kind of uncommercial vibe. It’s better than just having bigger commercial vendors selling stuff.
That’s a good thing - we are seeing a privatization of public spaces by private entrepreneurs. That nice town square where people could hang out? It’s now an outdoor restaurant. That lovely street? Tables full of tourists eating. The sidewalk? No way to get through, there’s now a restaurant. It might have “flair” and “outdoor culture”, but we really need to use sidewalks as sidewalks and not as restaurants
