  • End of NSA dependence

    If US tech giants like Google, Meta, or X do not cooperate with requests, the BND would be allowed to penetrate their systems secretly.

    I’ll take it.

    The powers of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) are to be extended

    This would even apply to IT infrastructures within Germany, provided it is necessary to defend against hostile cyberattacks. The line between domestic and foreign intelligence gathering would thus be difficult to maintain.

    Or maybe not…

    Roughly 10 years ago people talked a lot about Big Data and how it maybe isn’t the best solution to Everything™. What happened to that? Oh yeah, the AI hype, cheap storage etc.

  • “Grants Asylum” between two EU countries? 🤔

    Turns out this is a perfect example out of the alt-right playbook:

    1. The Polish lower house of parliament [stripped] a former justice minister of immunity, which opens the way for him to be arrested and charged with numerous crimes, including abuse of power and heading an organised criminal group.
    2. The fascist screecher calls this “political repressions” and a “witch hunt”
    3. Orban is only too happy to pick up on that and grants him “political asylum”, something that does not really exist, or at the very least is meaningless, between EU countries.
    4. => Narrative over facts!

    And Reuters’ reporting remains “factual” without adding that it is manufactured drama
