    Most of the batteries in EVs are still in service. As the tech ages, their is going to be a need for a robust recycling program. Led-acid batteries (the kind in gas cars) already has a 90+% closed supply system which means the primary input for new batteries is old batteries.

    With robust recycling, resource extraction can actually go down even as we use more and more batteries.

    People don’t feel like it cause they don’t wake up one day with a 7x increase in battery life.

    But just compare literally any battery powered device from 10-15 years ago with today, it’s just a huge difference.

    These technologies get implemented slowly due to the fact that the first versions of a tech might have small improvements over the previous, but have much higher headroom for improvements once the manufacturing techniques are worked out.
