The U.S. Makes “Global Push”
to Stop Cuba’s Medical Missions

At a hearing last week, Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) asked Katherine Dueholm, the principal deputy assistant secretary for the State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, what the #US was doing to stop #Cuba’s #MedicalCooperation missions. “We are taking a global push to encourage countries to step out of this program,” Dueholm answered.

Cuba’s international medical cooperation missions have operated in dozens of countries worldwide since the 1960s. They usually provide healthcare for the poorest of the poor in Global South countries. Cuban doctors volunteer to go on these missions, where they are paid many times more than what they make in Cuba.

    This is what’s different between the Trump regime and fascist regimes of the past: the cruelty. Trump and his henchmen revel and delight in being cruel.

    Stopping USAID and killing hundreds of thousands wasn’t enough: nobody else should show empathy and humanity. They won’t be satisfied until the cruelty is total.
