One time visiting spain we made a pit stop at a gas station in some remote bask town. I entered the shop (had a bright Spanish soccer shirt on) and asked if they speak “Spanish”. With disgust they answered “Castellano!”

So… seems to depend on who you ask.

Es lo mismo. Aunque quizás mejor español.

I usually call it castellano to keep awareness of the other languages of Spain
