For myself, it was about helping me see and imagine how humans were doing around 50Kyrs ago. It also took me a bit to realise that the main characters were Neanderthals, and not Sapiens. But then near the end of the movie I think they did actually run in to some Sapiens or other human species. Indeed, right around that time-frame I believe there were about 5-6 human species running around.
It was unexpectedly a rather charming movie, though. Also quite an important film IMO… in that we moderns have so utterly lost touch with who and what we are that it’s refreshing to be taken back to reality, in a sense.
I mean, if you took a bunch of modern human babies and raised them without the presence of civilisation, those are exactly the kinds of lives they’d be leading-- i.e. hunter-gatherers in tribal / clan form. Not farmers and land-owners.
What is the moral of this story?
