    I once used to dream of emigrating when I was young, and my relatives want me there because they think I’m smart and I could make lots of money, which is the point of going there. Now that I am old enough, I’d rather deal with my homeland problems at the level of acceptable comfort than trying to pay the price of being there.

    I’m in the Philippines, a country where we have a questionable relationship with China: they continue to question the 2016 arbitration ruling, and we are tied in a very uneven trade agreement where we have to import nearly everything from there while exporting raw goods to them but subject to their protectionist measures.
