When I was a kid, my brother stuck his finger into the hinge-side gap on the front door of the apartment, right before dad left for work. The door shut on his finger, breaking my brother’s finger and giving me a serious case of the willies when I see something like OP’s picture.
Ouch, I’m sorry about your brother’s finger. Did he fully recover?
He doesn’t even remember it, lol. He was a baby, only recently able to walk. He’s in his 40’s now.
I’m glad he was ok!
You gotta get them once. I had one cat try to reach between the door of a closet. Didn’t see her, fortunately closed it slowly. She screamed bloody murder of course. Didn’t do damage, but you know what she hasn’t tried again since?
Never mind. I looked again and see it’s an orange. That’s a hopeless cause there.
This happened to one of the cats my husband had in the house when he was growing up. They had a screen door that would slam shut in the wind.
Guess what one of the cats loved to do? Sit in the doorway cause inside and outside! Best place for cat.
He heard the door slam and the cat SCREAMED
Cat was okay, just lost the fur in that spot for awhile apparently
Cat never did that again!
My cat shares her life motto with Darkwing Duck, “let’s get dangerous.” Her current favourite is silently flopping down by my office chair and putting her tail directly behind a wheel…
One of my cats likes to lay on her back and spread out as much as possible, right behind my chair just like yours.
I’ve learned to look around before moving because she’ll just lay there and watch you as you run her over lol
My cat likes to stretch out and sleep on the bottom step of my stairs so I have to double check for the stair cat now.
Ouch
You’d think he/she would have learned. My cat hit his head on the ceiling fan one time and is now always watching out for it whenever he’s close to the ceiling.
But this is an orange cat, so the rules are different.
My cat used to sleep on top of my kitchen cabinets as a kitten, until she fell off one day lol. Scared the shit out of me when I heard a loud thump from the other room, but she’s ok 😂 - she does not go up there anymore, though, to her credit haha.

I would have added a flap to the hinge side that blocks arms getting in. But you don’t want solutions, you just want me to listen empathetically to your ongoing failures. :p
If the flap blocks the cat will lay down and reach up under, but at least the pinch won’t be as bad.
I’d put a flap on the outside, just like some siding or something…
“cat arm”
🧐
