What?
Mainframes are not slow?
You do know that VISA handles a their transactions on mainframes?
What?
Mainframes are not slow?
You do know that VISA handles a their transactions on mainframes?
Oh no, not the fucking cloud.
Didn’t we just talk about taking the data back?
Let’s run our own servers and not a needless third party…
The entire world is too Microsoftified, but with the rise of flatpaks, Linux may change that.
Well, you can, and in someway it is easier…
I mean, machines need maintenance, what if someone made a misstake and uploaded a script that would make subtle changes to the database over time?
Changing a 2 to a 3 or an A to a K and so on slowly over time, you don’t have to burn everything, but make it too unreliable to use…
It never was.
The US have a history of using their intelligence agencies to help US companies win bids abroad, we may have been militarily allied, but in the business world we have been enemies for a long time
For normal tasks, absolutely, and if we can do it without a mainframe while maintaining the stability and redundancy of a mainframe system, then we should look into alternatives.
However, mainframes have been in continous development since they were created, there are absolutely tasks they still do better these days.
Humm, this will probably mean that the EU will need to look into if we need to setup a European mainframe manufacturer.
I am talking AS400/iSeries type stuff.
MasterCard and VISA process a huge number of transactions per second, and there can’t be any risk of loosing a transaction in progress, so you need an extremely stable central processing node with very high redundancy.
At the moment I believe that only IBM and Fujistu makes mainframes these days, IBM is American which has now shown to not be an ideal long term trading partner, Fujistu is Japanese, with a strong presence in Europe, but they made the UK Post Office computer system, which makes me want to stay, far, far, far away from them.
Either one, whoever we pick will make it easy to get the system going, but to migrate away will be a nightmare.
I wonder if we could build something on open hardware like Risc-V, this make me wonder is Risc-V would even be suitable for this application
Denmark has a dispensation they arranged when forming the EU.
Sweden and the other countries does not.
When joining the EU you are commited to switching to the Euro when you have fullfilled the criteria for doing so, Sweden has decided to not fullfill the criterias required and will therefore keep the Krona for the forseeable future.
What would you consider to be the limit for defining a house/apartment as being lived in by the owner?
What about a summer house in the countryside, where you only live for a month or so during the summer, should that be classified as simply a wealth generating property?
Or is it defined by how far away from a city it is located?
Say that a new factory/powerplant/facility opens an hour away by car from your summer home, this new facility needs a lot of staff, will your summer home be reclassified to a normal home because of a decision you didn’t make?
Local city laws could absolutely be set up to tax extra properties higher, but the administration would be huge!
ATON - Atlantic Treaty Organization of the North?
It would mean replacing The CAD with the EUR, would be kinda funny to see EU flags on the border between the US and Canada though…
Thst is fair, thanks for clarifying that it was just hyperbole with the nukes.
I mostly agree with your point about keeping Hungary in the EU.
It is funny, here in Sweden we have for decades looked down upon other countries in the EU, even our neighboring countries, for their “terrible” livestock practices.
If I see beef from Denmark or Ireland on the shelf, I will not buy it even if there is no alternative, if there is no Swedish beef, I will not buy beef that day.
And now from what I understand, the Drumpfster want us to buy food that is even lower quality?
lol.
Now, when I say that I only buy Swedish meat in the store, and that other nations livestock practices are “terrible”, I mean it in that I have been told since I was born that other nations pump their animals full of antibiotics, while Sweden does not, and that other nations are “abusing” their livestock, Sweden does not.
I don’t know how true this all is, but it absolutely affects my decisions on what to buy.
What advantage would russia gain by placing nukes in Hungary?
Russia already borders the EU, I just don’t see the point of stationing nukes in Hungary if they left the EU, if anything it would make the nukes far more difficult to defend, as Hungary would be surrounded by enemies.
Yeah, terrible that weapons like land mines are making a comeback, but they are just too effective in warfare and Russia has shown that land mines are needed once more.
They are a great area denial weapon.
And if you are wondering what an area denial weapon is, look up the Desolator from Red Alert 2, far from the same concept of land mines, but effective at denying area to the enemy.
Although she can appeal the verdict, such a move won’t suspend her ineligibility, which could rule her out of France’s 2027 presidential race.
Yes.
French fascist, go fuck yourself!
Ok, so you have nothing to counter my argument with.
But lets get back to the question at hand, you claim that European militaries are pathetic, but offer no concrete argument to support that claim.
Based on your comments in this thread, I can only assume that you are a troll, Russian asset, or Trump supporter.
Pathetic in what way?
We have the best tanks, the best artillery, the best attack subs, several really good military aircraft programs and more.
The one thing we are lacking is quantity, and even then I wouldn’t call us pathetic in that area.
Our military has for the last few decades been based against a resonable enemy, one who will calculate gains vs losses in a resonable manner and who then realize that working together is better than fighting.
This world has now gone, with the war in Ukraine, it is clear that Russian leaders no longer can be expected to act with reason, and Europe is picking up the pace.
Some may argue that it is too little too late, but you know, you can’t change the past, if we could act with hindsight of future events then we would be unstoppable.
As a Swede, I am angry with my government for selling off defense resources for decades and dismantling our military, but we are working on sorting ourselves out.
Nah, he doesn’t care about the voters this time.
This is all him and the Project 2025 guys.
These are the first two captured/found, the two in and of themselves are not a huge fighting force, but it shows that Ukraine should prepare to deal with possible further reenforcements…
