It begs the question, what is the ‘good’ solution.
Or is ‘good’ even possible?
2hr daily meeting.
Fuck man, sorry.
I work from home once a week, and yeah the steam deck is nice in this regards.
btw, did you know that the steam docking station also works on laptops? Found that to be very useful, now I don’t have to unplug and plug in a bunch of hdmi when I need to use the monitor for work/gaming.
Got a favorite app? Been trying to get into crosswords, but I do find them difficult.
Been using sporcle.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you do to kill time at work?English
19·2 days agoOffice worker in government. Everyone around me is either an idiot/incompetent or doing all the work. Will get ‘rewarded’ with more work if I start asking for more.
At least you get to go home early if you want. I guarantee that 80% of office workers pretend to work all day because if we don’t then we are given more work/responsibilities without a pay increase, job title, any reward.
A lot of office work is ‘be ready to answer a question at anytime when someone walks up to your cube’. And to be fair, you are probably the only person who can answer that question since most people’s role is niche/specialized.
But honestly, pretty sure office workers/management want people in the office all hours of the days because they hate their home life, and use work as their only socialization.
Apologies.
Thank you for brining joy to the world
You have enlightened me.
Praise be to the bread Gods.
How can you tell that my account is new?
Also its a new account, I was here a few years ago.
Physical touch in erogenous zones.
Only had my heart broken once (twice if you count me taking her back after cheating).
Time was the only thing that helped me. And then after a year or two, trying to talk to other girls.
Either way, its rough man. Just know that you are not alone and everybody goes through it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are there any decent sites where you can meet people online?English
1·2 days agoOnline hobby communities. So if your into gaming/modding, join some discords or whatever and then eventually you can translate to irl. Especially if you live near a big city/population.
Also, my wife 5 years ago made about 5 new friends on Bumble with friend feature thing. Still hang out with two of them.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it just me, or are people becoming more prudish?English
1·2 days agoI would not say people are coming more prudish, but rather policies are. Why? I assume because cash is king, and the best way to get cash is in advertising. Advertising has always been prudish since it needs to appeal to the masses.
Policy eventually influences/dictates culture. This is most obvious with the world ‘unalive’.
Another idea, is that we are becoming significantly more moral and have increase civil rights. How does this relate? Well, if you grew up in the 90s or 00s you know that being told you were gay was not a joking matter, but a serious claim that could make you a social pariah. Now calling someone ‘gay’ as an insult is not as socially acceptable, is that because we are more prude or more moral?
I think what a lot of people identify as ‘prude’ culture is just another perspective of an attempt at being more moral and inclusive.
When I was a child, I would lay awake at night, in retrospect it was anxiety and depression due to loneliness (only child, sheltered, private school with less than 10 kids).
What I did, without the knowledge or concept of anxiety and depression, was that I would let me thoughts run and I would use logic and reasoning to get through them.
“What if a kid makes fun of me for this and that?” “I would then do this”, and then I would play out every single possible situation in my head on what the most common, worst, and best outcomes were.
A decade of doing that helped me.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•103°F in Los Angeles all weekEnglish
20·2 days agoTrue, but it is hard to ignore that the a certain class seems to be centralized/condensed to one generation specifically. And that generation also consistently and energetically supports them to the day they die.
Does your wife take requests?
A loaf of sourdough with cheddar and jalapeno please.
I already have a bake at work, but I will gladly be fat for bread. If bread was good enough for our ancestors, its good enough for me damnt!
At least for us that are clever, can use tactics like this while we can.
The solution is to have dynamic personalized tutorials.
Lets take Death Stranding 2 for example, since I think its played a lot by working adults.
Death Stranding has a lot of story, relationships, and game mechanics they slowly throw at you. But when you take a break for 1-3 months it can definitely be difficult to remember what you were doing and how to do it.
They already have tutorials in their VR system, but that just goes over the basics. It would be neat if the game took the metrics they collect on you, to teach you how to use your most common moves and such.
It would also be neat if they could have a mentor system where the tutorial would then teach you new mechanics you ignored if it would help you out immediately (totally optional of course).

Linux@lemmy.ml•Windows 11 is failing as an operating systemEnglish
8·2 days agoSo I am a linux user, but use Windows 11 for work. I am an accountant in the school system.
Windows works fine for my work purposes. Especially when a lot of applications are being removed for web clients. I still use quite a bit of desktop applications, but I see the writing on the wall; soon all my work can be done on any device.
When the desktop application in work spaces finally die, I am curious if industries will switch to linux since its free and can be run on any hardware essentially. That or maybe owners will force their workers to use their own devices (phones, like Samsung DeX) to do work.

Technology@lemmy.world•EV Charging Doesn't Need to Be as Fast as Gas, Ionna CEO SaysEnglish
16·2 days agoDefinitely.
Its ignoring that people’s use of their personal vehicle is actually for work purposes, commuting; and guess what? People don’t like to commute and try to get it down as quickly as possible.
His situation does work for people on road trips, but ignores the daily lives and routine of everybody that works for money.
Another instance of CEOs having immense privilege and literally cannot fathom or understand how normal people operate. I mean, just go stand outside a 7/11 for 30 minutes and start counting how many people go inside vs getting their gas and go.

Social media was not a mistake, but unregulated social media was.
The whole incentive for businessman to ‘innovate’ in tech is to skirt around the law. We have had laws about theft for centuries, but now since its ‘digital’ theft we have to write new laws for some reason?
Just an example, but social media/tech unregulated is what got us here.
