2·2 days agoYMMV but I’ve found the GIMP UI to be pretty much on a par with photoshop after having learnt the UI and learnt/modified the keyboard shortcuts. Some things are in fact better in GIMP, like panning and zooming. I’ve transitioned to GIMP on my own hardware but still use photoshop at a workplace.
If photoshop was open source then I think there would be a conversation to be had but I wouldn’t pay for it now that I’m used to GIMP.

9·3 days agoGIMP is well worth getting used to, especially now we are post 3.0 with a proper non-destructive workflow for filters/effects. I had always found it confusing to learn, having the Photoshop UI fossilised into my neural pathways, but what unlocked it for me was following an online GIMP course for 2/3 hours, which amounted to far less time than I had formerly spent cracking photoshop or working to pay for it.
Some great plugins are coming out now too. The Batcher plugin in particular makes GIMP (and GMIC by extension) extremely powerful for automation.
Good times.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•I'm making a FOSS all-in-one file converter app - looking for opinions!
11·3 days agoGood idea for an app. Linux especially would benefit from more high quality apps aimed at less-technical users.
Would be good to include audio-only conversion too.

2·11 days agoI don’t have any stats to hand but judging by the amount of activity on the forum and the number of people here on Lemmy using it I would say that it is. It’s really good as well.

4·11 days agoCool, be sure to post about it if you do. Also, see if you can get it packaged for YUNOhost, either by yourself or let them know about it. Would love to try it out :)

Every weird problem in the future is gonna make you wonder if it’s because of that.
Pretty much what I’ve realised about doing anything weird with my system. I want a peaceful life.

I had the same thing. I think I solved it by installing xclip.
I think what you’re having is when the ‘pastee’ application is expecting shift-ctrl-v but you’ve used ctrl-v or vice versa.
Does this happen when you log in via your browser as well as when using a client app?

I try not to do this any more because if it takes a while the cortisol stops me from getting to sleep afterwards.
