Like mastodon in SSH (and yes, no blocking the line!)
Incredibly niche! :)
Probably why i like it so much.
Not seen one more detailed than this, although worth checking against fedidb.com - also, missing my new favourite from the list, stegodon (stegodon.social, stegodon.zip)

Television@piefed.social•‘Scrubs’ Reboot: The Gang Is Back Together For First Table Read & Cast Photo
19·8 months agoI think it would have done much better had it been a true spin off from scrubs as originally planned, instead of some silly studio decision to make it series 9.
There was legs for something, but it wasn’t “scrubs”.

Season 8 ended perfectly (there is no season 9).
How you come back so long later and keep it fresh, I don’t know. I just hope they can pull it off.

9·8 months agoFYI these are all on ASN 49453
The other (lazier) option is to block/challenge the ASN
My response wasn’t regarding the geoblock, but to the above poster saying we block VPNs (which isn’t true)
But just so you’re aware, we dont geoblock federation traffic and all our posts, comments etc are federated without issue.
The only thing geoblocked is the UIs, so UK visitors can’t access the UI.
If your client tries to direct you to lemmy.zip rather than the crossposted article, then that client isn’t working properly and you should log a bug. Like any crosspost, the content federates fine.
Hope that clears it up for you.
We dont actually block VPNs, but we do block ASNs where we get abuse traffic. Just so happens that Proton VPNs servers in France are on that ASN.

Lemm.ee didn’t shut down because it was financially unsustainable though. It shut down because the admin team didn’t want to do it anymore.
Plenty of people have offered to take lemm.ee on and AFAIK nothing has progressed, but handled in a different way there could have been continuity and no need for users to transition away.
Given that the issue wasn’t one of finance and rather one of effort/will, how does charging for access change anything? The owner could decide they have had enough, walk away, and shut everything down anyway, no?

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Voyager changed the default instance to lemmy.zipEnglish
8·1 year agoThere is no need for us to defederate, the law is around accessing a specific website and the onligations to ensure the content on that website doesnt fall under the OSA.
It doesn’t matter where that content comes from, just that UK users don’t see specific content. Therefore we don’t show UK users any content.
That’s kind of a simplified summary, but hopefully makes sense.
It only impacts lemmy.zip because I am a UK resident and run the site, so am liable under the act. Otherwise I’d do what everyone else has done and ignore it.

Usenet retention can be an issue, I think some providers have a cut off of over 15 years though.
Admittedly its more popular now so likely to have more modern stuff yes.
