  • Fisk often does have some drive that his tyranny makes the city “better” or “safer”. It’s misguided and ego-driven, and while he does play the “rules for thee not me” game, he’s not entirely climbing the ladder solely to profit personally, usually that’s a side hustle, a perk of the job, but not the end game. His issue is he leans towards maintaining the city for the sake of the idea of the city, which is more than bureaucracy. He wants to be beloved like a hero, similar to how Lex Luthor and Elon want to be beloved, but they’re all so out of touch and narcissistic they can’t see it’s their nature that makes them loathsome. Their personalities are fictional and they can’t be whatever the writer wants them to be within reason, but I’d add while Fisk is many things, he’s not written as Trump level creep who uses his position and wealth for sexual exploitation. He does personally murder more people than Trump probably has.

  • I’ve wondered about this myself. It feels like school and mass shootings are down compared to previous years. Is it because the media deliberately reports them less, or because the kinds of people who use to vent their impotent rage at soft targets have been allowed greater privilege to assault individuals/small groups of “others” so instead of shooting up a random school they can instead target those the regime has declared open season on? It’s probably a mix of both, plus the normalization of mass shootings to the point they only stick out in the public mind when the casualty count tops a few dozen.

  • Godzilla has been the horror of the atomic age, then fought the hubris of humanity as it surfaced over the years. Pollution (Hedorah), the military-industrial complex (Mechagodzilla), genetic engineering (Biollante), weapons of mass destruction (Destroyah), bureaucracy (Shin Godzilla). We’ve already got a top tier nemesis that could be the threat of AI.

    GI-GANNNNN! Rise.”

  • The assumption that there wasn’t a level of cheating and interference in that election is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Both sides have been playing the game of gerrymandering and creating districts in their favor when it suits them and they have the power to do so, conservatives just played it better and now have control of enough courts to legalize it or drag out the fight until the election comes and goes and the fight is irrelevant.

I firmly believe that his “stolen election” complaint is because he cheated but it wasn’t enough, they “stole” his rigged win. Now they’re consolidating power, tweaking maps, voter suppression, creating barriers to voting, who the fuck knows how secure our machines even are at this point. The next election is a test of how successful their new tactics are, because when he runs illegally for a third term they want to be damn sure the ability to steal a win is foolproof. When he runs it’ll get challenged, it’ll get drawn out, he’ll keep running, his system will hand him what looks like a huge win, he’ll declare it’s a mandate from the people.

  • I’m up in Idaho and while we’ve always had white nationalists, the past couple of decades it’s become a haven for the ones fleeing blue states. One tried to unseat our old school Republican type governor this week and though he lost, he still got 30% of the vote. He’s a real estate agent and specifically markets “move to Idaho if you’re white”, there’s a lot of them here now that make racism the goal. Some of our rural towns have become white nationalist enclaves. Boise is the one city they can’t flip and they caravan in from the boonies to roll coal and harass us any time we have a protest. One of our DFP rallies was about 100 of us protesting and several hundred counter protesting, many of them armed. Neonazi bikers, excon white boys covered in Swazis, boogaloos, and the cops stood with them. The cops watched one point an AR at us and simulate shooting us; nothing happened. In the 90s they’d crawl out of their compound and have a parade once a year, now they behave worse every day in public.

  • As a white boy from Idaho, I second this. We ran their first wave out in the early 00s, but the next wave trying to create a white nationalist haven was far worse than the old ones who contented themselves with cosplay Conderacy/Nazism and only left their compounds once a year for a parade. There’s no shame anymore, no edgelord “I’m a Nazi” attitude. They’ve normalized the doctrine by being average neighbors rather than radical weirdos in a bunker. They’re invading our local offices, school boards, city councils, and other minor offices. One challenged our governor (a Regan-esque pos but not total MAGA) and while he lost, still got 30% of the vote. They’re buying up our remote farming communities and turning them into ideological enclaves. They’re well educated, and many are former cops or military. Out here it’s creating a strange bedfellow situation. We’ve got urban leftists and libs, east state Mormons who are starting to recognize MAGA evangelicals aren’t their ally, and the 2A an-cap libertarians who hate the Feds. Fun times. But seriously, don’t let these people get a foot in the door at any level.
